Two rare icons of desert adaptation

Two rare icons of desert adaptation

Two unique species that have adapted to living in one of the harshest environments on the planet- the Namib desert. The welwitschia plant in the foreground is one of the rarest and oldest plants known to man, living in one of the oldest and driest deserts in the world. That in itself is something amazing to behold but,  having a desert adapted lion sitting behind it certainly takes the image to another  level. Working on the barren and desolate plains of the Skeleton Coast is a humbling experience as survival out here would be measured in hours rather than days and yet there are these amazing species that thrive.
