Dawn and Dogs, the Wild kind
useradmin_davephotos2025-07-26T12:54:59+02:00Each and every species that one needs to document has its own set of challenges, but the greatest challenge has to be the African Wild Dog. High speed, efficiency on the hunt all done at dawn or dusk with minimal light makes this my personal number one challenge in the field. Unlike lions, or all the big cats who pose, stretch and yawn at fairly predictable times with beautiful light, dogs are out moving at 60+ km/h and in the blink of an eye, prey is caught, devoured and they are heading back to the den before the sun has even peeked above the horizon. In this particular image we followed the “wrong” dogs, these individuals got seperated during the initial chase and by the time we relocated it was all over and the successful dogs with full bellies were on the way back to the den. The first rays of the sun were just touching the ears of the wild dog.
